Friday July 25th. 10am – 4 pm. The Tudor barber-surgeon is ready to see you!
The Tudor physician and barber-surgeon has a wealth of cures and treatments, many of which are strange to our modern eyes. This was a time of change and whereas most medicine was still rooted in the ‘four humours’ of Greek and Roman times, some practitioners were moving to a more symptom-driven approach. However, the ‘Old Guard’ still held sway for most medical treatments for most people and so blood-letting, fast surgery and strange potions were still standard practices.
