Following the death of King John in October 1216, his 9 year old son, Henry, was crowned in Gloucester Abbey. He is the only English monarch to be crowned outside Westminster Abbey since 1066.
Ian’s talk examines the events leading to the Coronation and, more intriguingly, questions why Gloucester was selected for this singular, great honour, as he takes us back to Anglo-Saxon times and the rise of Gloucester.
