St Mary de Lode Church – Heritage Open Days Event

The city’s oldest parish church , which is mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1085. It was built over a Saxon church and a Roman building. the Roman mosaic tiled floor can still be seen in the church. The building was used as a prison for Royalist soldiers during the Civil War in 1643.

On Saturday at 2.00pm, the Gloucester Music Society will host a talk on Edward Elgar which will last for 45 minutes.

St Mary de Lode Church is situated in Archdeacon Street behind Gloucester Cathedral.

This event is one of many making up Gloucester History Festival and Heritage Open Days.
