Songs of Praise marking World War One Centenary and Battle of Somme – Heritage Open Days Event

Beautiful hymns, songs and poetry of WWI to mark this bloodiest of conflicts.

Poems read by Jeremy Keck.

WWI songs and music written by Gloucestershire composers, including Herbert Howells, Hubert Parry, Ivor Gurney and Gustav Holst.

The vocal soloist will be Philip Webb and further music will be provided by Gloucester Salvation Army Band (Cliff Matthews) and Songsters (Philip Webb).

There will be a retiring collection in aid of the Salvation Army’s work amongst the homeless in Gloucester.

FREE event but pre-booking is required. Tickets available from Tourist Information Centre in Southgate Street.

This event is one of many making up Gloucester History Festival and Heritage Open Days.
