In the spring of 2020 Gloucester Civic Trust will be opening “The Folk of Gloucester”, an exhibition and events space housed in a large Tudor building in Lower Westgate, Gloucester, which tells the story of Gloucester Folk from Tudor times to the modern day.

Heritage Open Days celebrate England’s fantastic historic architecture and culture by offering FREE access to properties which are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission. Every year on four days in September, there’s a chance to discover architectural treasures and enjoy a wide range of events and activities which bring local history and culture to life.

In Gloucester, the events are organised by the Civic Trust and offer a huge range of activities including guided walks, access to historic buildings, music recitals, talks and cultural activities. Gloucester can trace its history from Roman occupation in the first century. It is rich in Saxon, Medieval and Tudor history and played a crucial part in the English Civil War with the Siege of 1643.

Details of this year’s events can be found at: www.gloucesterhistoryfestival.co.uk

Gloucester Residents' weekend

Every year in Spring, as part of Gloucester Residents Weekend, the Civic Trust offers a selection of free guided Walks.

While these walks are free to residents, the numbers are limited, and advance booking is required. Tickets for the walks are available from the Tourist Information Centre which is located in the City Museum in Brunswick Road.
