Put your best foot forward, enjoy the scenery around Gloucester and improve your health.
That’s what’s on offer for the next two weeks with the launch of the Strolling in Gloucestershire Festival this weekend. It sees the official start of a health walks programme, ‘ put your best foot forward’ being co-ordinated by the city council in association with the ‘walking the way to health’ scheme.
Now the city council is looking for local residents willing to become walk leaders and run regular walks for their local community.
Councillor Martyn White, cabinet member for heritage and leisure, commented: “ We’ll provide free training for anyone wanting to volunteer to become a walk leader. The idea is that we develop local health walks for residents and led by residents.
“We have some wonderful countryside around our historic city and there are some beautiful walking routes to suit people of all ages. Not only is this good for health but it helps bring communities together. What better way to get to know people than going for a pleasant stroll in the countryside.”
One of the first ‘put your best foot forward’ walks will be officially launched by the Mayor, Councillor Chris Witts, on Monday July 20 at the Elmbridge Community Partnership, Richians Club car park, off Sandyleaze at 7.00pm.
Information and the full Gloucester Programme for the Strolling in Gloucestershire Festival, which runs from July 18th until August 2nd, is available on the city council website at www.gloucester.gov.uk
