Tours of the best preserved Dominican Priory in England
On Sunday 5th July and every Sunday throughout the summer an experienced Gloucester Civic Trust guide will conduct a tour of the Blackfriars Priory in Ladybellegate Street. The Priory, parts of which date back to 1240AD, is considered to be the best example of its type remaining and includes a “Scriptorium” which is Britain’s oldest library.
The Priory was started around 1240 AD and took about 35-40 years to complete and visitors will be able to detect ancient ‘gaffiti’ showing names and scribbling of past residents.
Tours start from the Priory entrance at 3pm each Sunday throughout July and August and cost £3.50 for adults (£3 for concessions including members of English Heritage).
