Norman Day at the Tower

ST. MICHAEL’S TOWER (Home of the Gloucester Civic Trust)

The Tower is to be used by the BBC on  Saturday 28 August  to host some of their events for their Norman Day:

10.00am: FILM: “When Brunel’s Ship Came Home” – 40 years on, BBC West marks the SS Great Britain’s return to Bristol (30 mins).

11.00am: FILM: “Bygone Gloucestershire” – Re-live the 1970s and ’80s with the TV archives of BBC West (30 mins)

11.30am: FILM: “Domesday” - At Christmas in the year 1085, Gloucester became the most important place in the entire British Isles. This short film reveals the reason why (10 mins)

12.00pm: IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF WILLIAM THE CONQUEROR – Phil Moss explores Norman Gloucester (30 mins)

(12.30pm: FREE WALK: Discover a city steeped in history on this 40 min. guided tour with the Gloucester Civic Trust. Starting outside St Michael’s Tower)

1.00pm: THE CITIZEN – Making News for 130 Years: Editor-in-Chief, Ian Mean, flicks through the pages of newspaper history (30 mins)

1.30pm: FILM: “When Brunel’s Ship Came Home” – The BBC celebrates the 40th anniversary of SS Great Britain’s homecoming (30 mins)

2.00pm: IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF WILLIAM THE CONQUEROR – Gloucester in Norman times described by Phil Moss (30 mins)

3.00pm: FILM: “Bygone Gloucestershire” – Familiar people and places from the BBC West archives of the 1970s & ’80s (30 mins)

3.30pm: FILM: “Domesday” - Dr Stephen Baxter shakes the dust off Domesday and reveals this Norman treasure from Gloucester’s past. (10 mins)
