Circus thrills and spills versus fights to death at the Colosseum
This summer the city’s museums will be looking at entertainment past and present.
Gloucester City Museum is celebrating the summer with Romans and gladiators in the ‘Colosseum’ exhibition. Discover the truth about the lives of the gladiators and the Roman crowds they entertained.
There will be free drop-in Roman craft activities every day, and workshops with a Roman theme every Tuesday.
This will run alongside the National Archaeological Festival, ‘Gloucester Knights, Monks and Maidens’. Events take place from 31st July – 1st August.
Roll up to Gloucester’s Folk Museum for the Circus exhibition featuring the famous Simmonds circus puppets, local circuses and fairs. Everyday during the summer holidays, there will be circus craft activities to accompany this exhibition.
Each Wednesday there will be drop-in teaching session where children can learn a variety of circus acts from juggling to plate spinning. And look out for Big Top Saturdays on 18th July and 29th August. There will also be a chance to ‘Meet the amphibians’ on 12th August.
‘Colosseum’ at the City Museum opens on 18th July until 12 September.
‘Circus’ at the Folk Museum runs until the 5 September.
