St Michael’s Tower latest news update

Friday, June 5th, 2009
The louvre blind which will be fixed to the large modern window over looking Starbucks Cafe is arriving on Monday 8 June. It’s enormous and will arrive in 2 parts. It’s arrival is something not to be missed and no doubt will cause a stir on the Cross.
It was on the recommendation of English Heritage that we had to have this bespoke blind made.
The idea is that it will stop the solar gain and heat penetrating through the window and will help alleviate the suplhation problem in the Tower.
The new blind coupled with the new ventilation system will help resolve the stonework problem. The cost of the louvre blind is £43,000 and it’s been made here in Gloucester by Levolux.  Quite an engineering feat.
