Heritage Art Classes

Monday, January 24th, 2011

Our art classes will start up once more in March until October. Thanks to
a grant from the Arts Council of England, the art classes will continue until November 2012. The
classes were extremely successful, with one lady taking up an art degree. This year, the art classes
will be going “on tour” around the city, with the art class discovering even more of Gloucester’s
past. Further details of the art classes will be published on our website www.gloucestercivictrust.org, or please call in to St Michael’s Tower when we re-open in mid March.

Art Workshops

Friday, November 19th, 2010

Gloucester Civic Trust has submitted a grant application to the Arts Council of  England seeking funding for a 2 year period so that we may continue to develop our heritage art class workshops.

The workshops held in 2009/2010 were very successful – after completing the course, one student took up an Access Course with Gloucester College with a view to doing a degree in Fine Arts.

If successful in the bid, the art workshops will go on tour and will be held at various heritage sites and in historic buildings around the City.

HERITAGE SCRAPBOOKING ARRIVES AT ST MICHAEL’S TOWER!

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Tower volunteer Anne brings a popular craft to St Michael’s Tower in Gloucester.

Scrapbooking is not a new hobby but has been restyled into a modern craft. The idea is to collate memorabilia and photos, which are often themed,  into scrapbook pages.  However, this is no ordinary scrapbook.  Special techniques are used to help set the scene.

Anne says, “we use various methods to age something modern to look old which completely transforms how photos and other memorabilia are presented.  I first started scrapbooking as I have many old family photos.  This is a great way of recording your family history. The scrapbook reflects different decades in every way, from fashion to transport. Having a scrapbook is a valuable keepsake where photos and special memories are preserved in your own special way”.

Anne is now setting up a series of scrapbook workshops in St Michael’s Tower. They will be run in the afternoons from 2.00 pm until 4.00 pm.

If you would like to sign up for this new and exciting work shop and help preserve your own family keepsakes please contact
