Open Meeting with City Councillors

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Any Questions?
Two of Gloucester city council’s most senior councillors are available for questions from members of the public on Monday, 5th October.
Council Leader Paul James, responsible for regeneration and culture, and councillor Debbie Llewellyn, who is responsible for performance and resources, are to take part in a public question time.
The move has been arranged by the council’s recently formed Overview and Scrutiny Committee. The committee makes recommendations to cabinet on future plans and also holds it to account for decisions it has taken.
The scrutiny committee meetings are open to the public but councillors are keen to see more residents taking an active role in local life and decisions that affect them.
Councillor Kate Haigh, who will chair the meeting said: “ This is a great opportunity for anyone who lives in Gloucester to come along and ask the people who run the city – ‘what’s happening?’
“Can culture revive the city centre? Are front line services good? What plans does the Cabinet have for the future of Gloucester? Come along and join the debate.”
Councillor Paul James added: “ To achieve our aim of building a better Gloucester we need to have robust debates with our residents. We welcome this opportunity to do just that. I think it is an excellent idea.”
The meeting, which is planned to be the first of a number of similar ones, will take place on Monday October 5th, 2009 at 6.30pm in the council chamber at North Warehouse at The Docks.
Questions need to be submitted in advance to: david.gordon@gloucester.gov.uk  by 5pm on Wednesday September 30. Tel 01452 396167.
