Postcard Collection

Friday, June 5th, 2009

Gloucester Civic Trust has  purchased a postcard collection of some 692 images.  Some are quite rare.  The cards contain some magnificent scenes of Gloucester in a bygone era. Some of them are seasonal such as Gloucester Valentine’s cards and Gloucester Chirstmas cards.

Thanks to Heritage Lottery Funding the cards have been digitally conserved by a specialist.  All images are now held on an external hard drive as well as on a CD rom.  Gloucester Civic Trust is now considering how the postcard images may be used such as reproducing prints, notelets and greetings cards. Some of the images have already been used in the 2010 calendar and for the Trust’s community filming project.

The originals will now be placed in safe keeping at the records office.

Colin Dunn of Scriptura Ltd carried out the digital Conservation work. Colin’s based in Oxford and is an expert in his field having done work for the Cairo musuem and the Oxford Universities – to name but a few.
